FOUNDER'S STORY: THE HEART BEHIND ESCALON

Every great mission has a story, and ours began with a little hero named Canela. She wasn't just my dog – she was my family's guardian angel, my teacher, and the inspiration for what Escalon would become.

Canela lived life with extraordinary courage and selflessness. Her bravery was proven beyond doubt the day she faced off with a snake, putting herself between danger and my father – an act of heroism that saved his life. This wasn't her only battle; she later faced a cruel encounter when someone with ill intent chased her down with their truck. Though she lost a leg in that tragic incident, she never lost her spirit or her ability to love unconditionally.

When Canela lost her battle with abdominal cancer during Thanksgiving week of 2024, it shattered my world into pieces. But through that profound loss, I found a new purpose – piecing myself back together stronger, driven by her memory and unwavering spirit. Her journey, from saving my father's life to facing every challenge with courage – even in her final battle with cancer – became more than just memories. They became the foundation of Escalon's mission.
